About Us
The Early Intervention Team
Rachel Kennedy
Key Worker, Co-Founder/Director (Ba.DipEd)
Many aspects of my life have come together and led me to become the co-founder and a director of The Humming Centre. The Humming Centre has helped me to infuse some of the most passionate and important aspects of my life, parenthood, my career as a primary school teacher and my love for rural communities.
Connecting with and teaching children came very naturally to me. I have now been a teacher for over 10 years and have had a broad teaching experience which has taken me to urban, regional, rural areas. All of which has taught me many lessons, however the prominent learning is that my passion and love is working with children.
I have three beautiful children ages 7yrs, 5yrs and 4yrs. My role as a mother had to broaden quickly when my second child was born with a disability, a moderate sensory neural hearing loss. From then I had to become my daughters biggest advocate, her educator and of course her mother. Living rurally highlighted to me how limited the services are and a big reason why I feel so strongly about connecting rural families to quality services.
The Humming Centre is a place where I am able to connect, guide and support families drawing from my own experiences. I use my vast teaching experiences to help embed a positive learning and supportive environment within the home life and within the community. I am passionate about equal opportunity for all children, particularly those with a disability and look forward to supporting all families and communities in creating the best outcome for all children.

Key Worker, Co-Founder/Director (BECEd, BNS)
I have worked with young children and their families through each of the roles in my working life, and I have enjoyed every aspect of this and what it has taught me.
I have been lucky enough to be working in the early childhood and early intervention space for over 10 years, working across several programs within the education, inclusion and disability sectors. These roles have allowed me to work within both metro and rural communities which has given me first had experience of the differences in access and opportunities many rural and remote families face. Our hope is that The Humming Centre can help to bridge the gap that is experienced by children and families living in rural areas when accessing quality services.
I grew up in rural New South Wales and completed my studies in Early Childhood Education and Nursing at Charles Sturt University, Bathurst, which marked my first introduction to the Central West. It was at this time that my passion for creating opportunities, environments and skill building that allows children to grow, play and learn happily alongside their peers grew.
My studies and ongoing professional development have provided me with a solid knowledge base of child development and the important role communities and families play in supporting children to achieve positive outcomes. This is reflected in our day-to-day practices at The Humming Centre as we work alongside families, educators and wider professionals to exchange knowledge and build capacity.
